The traveling gavel was initiated several years ago as a symbol of district spirit. In order to steal the traveling gavel, an officer and another member must travel to where the gavel resides and stay for an entire club meeting. Once the meeting is over, the gavel is handed over to the new club.

The traveling gavel has made its way from the Exchange Club of Greenville to the Exchange Club of McMinnville to the Lake Tansi Exchange Club and has now finally made its way into the Nashville area.
